The VT1 and VT1M are sensitive color television cameras with an extremely powerful lens. They magnify and allow the video taping of desired images from a considerable distance and allow magnified close-up views of objects from 30 feet or more. For example, a small crack in a concrete or steel surface can be zoomed on from hundreds of feet, or a human face can be zoomed on and fill the entire TV monitor screen from a distance of more than a quarter of a mile away. The VT1 and VT1M are very simple to set up usually take less than 5 minutes to set up in the field.

VT1 and VT1M incorporate 20-to-1 zoom power and laser devices such as a pointer, range finder, or dual laser scaling device.

VT1 has a manually adjusted pan and tilt fork mount with coarse and fine adjustments, whereas VT1M has pan and tilt motors allowing the constant speed scanning of surfaces.
